Vert joins Barefoot and SAS crew for Widdie Bay beach clean

June 15, 2011

Since relocating from rural Cheshire to coastal Bude, I’d love to say I’ve increased my wave count, but alas, its not quite worked out that way so far. A major issue for all watersports enthusiasts is sewage pollution and marine litter which presents a risk to both human, aquatic and bird life.

The amount of marine litter found on UK beaches has almost doubled in the last fifteen years, with at least 1 piece being found on average every 30cm. The SAS is an amazing not-for profit environmental pressure group who campaign for cleaner beaches. They have teamed with Barefoot Wine to host a number of beach cleans this summer so I’ll be donning rubber gloves and boots, and heading to my local break at Widemouth to lend a hand.
